Bug Description

I have encountered this problem in Ubuntu 8.10 as well as in Ubuntu 9.10 Testing (both are FF 3.0.12). When you click with your right mouse button in the address bar, the text is selected and the context menu shows up. So far, so good. However, in the context menu the options cut/copy/delete are disabled. If you right click for a second time in the address bar, the options are enabled as they should be.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Are you sure that you have text selected when you right click in the address bar? When I right click, I have no text selected and the options are disabled. As soon as text is selected the options are enabled.

When I right click on the address bar, all text is automatically
selected. (thanks to browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll = true)
Thus, the expected behaviour is to be able to copy/cut/delete the text, too.

User forgot to mention that this setting is enabled:
browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll = true

I have confirmed this with a new profile on Firefox 3.0.12 and with my normal profile on Firefox 3.5.1.

This looks like a duplicate of bug 468221, but I'm hesitant to mark this as a duplicate because that bug is very confusing to read (the reporter failed to mention the location bar and "clickSelectsAll = true" at first, only bug 468221 comment #13 is sufficently clear). Based on the report in bug 468221 this looks to be cross platform.

I believe this is a papercut, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue , in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install , that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of the project.

While this looks like a papercut, it mostly likely isn't an easy fix. This is also an edge case as it only applies in the URL bar and not in the browser itself.

For further info about papercuts criteria, please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as "invalid" ONLY in the papercuts project.

This issue no longer occurs in Firefox 17. I don't know if the browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll enabled configuration parameter is still used, but it has no effect on the pop-up menu.
