is it possible this is due to how extensively everything depends on firefox in Dapper? What if a devel tried to tweak so epiphany replaces firefox in that role, although firefox is still the default browser? would this work by any chance? (brain storming)

also, is it possible this is due to the use of system files (/usr) instead of mozilla provided files (that are in the tar.gz)? Could using mozilla-provided files increase the speed instead of system files/tools? (still brain storming)

and finally, is it possible this is related to Dapper using cairo? but than, I guess mozilla's firefox would be slow as well? or wouldn't it? (more brain storming)
