What happens if you do a

cd /etc/apparmor.d/disable
ln -s ./../usr.bin.firefox
ln -s ./../usr.bin.firefox_patched

?

This is just to test if your problem is at least _related_ to apparmor. Should be undone after the test as it disables the apparmor profile for firefox (temporarily weakens security).
