I installed 180.11 from synaptic (ubuntu 8.10) and the problem disappeared!!!

HUGE DIFFERENCE IN FIREFOX!!! Now http://lubosz.de/Firefox3PerformanceBug/ FLIES!!!!

My ati powered laptop though still has the problem.

I wish ATI finds the solution fast
