I found the related line in the code: It's in LoginManagerContent.js at line 643. https://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/toolkit/components/passwordmgr/LoginManagerContent.jsm#643

It checks deliberately for the lowercase username. Last edit was by <email address hidden> on #839961 but this was just a refactoring. I don't know enough git blame to get the actual author.
