I just noticed a very similar problem in thunderbird which I suspect has the same origin. I could not find a bug report so I filed a new one here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/539853 . Can anyone with the firefox bug confirm the thunderbird bug, too?
