Comment #50 is interesting. Maybe a combination of FF + Compiz + emerging from an screensaver is making the awesome bar been drawn behind FF window. As a simple fix, we would suggest FF devs to set the awesome bar window as "always on top"; I think that is the simplest way to fix this issue.
Also, it may be focus related. I've just discovered that if the bug is triggered while running kile, then anything I type will not be "received" by kile. If I switch back-and-forth from one desktop to another the bug goes away.
Anyone can confirm this same behavior in kile or anethor kde/qt 4 program?
