Yes, backing out a code bit that replaced a problem by another was an issue. Backing out the patch until there is an actual replacement code would actually seem like a good idea. I'm not sure about you, but when something's ugly but useful, I do not actually remove it just because it's ugly with an indefinite wait for a replacement, I wait for the replacement to come in and then remove the ugly bit.
