First: If you find the loss of functionality caused by this bug irritating, please do not forget to go to the top of this page and cast your vote for it to be fixed if you have not already done so. I think a lot of people simply have not done this one simple thing since the duplicate count for this bug is higher than the number of votes for this bug to be addressed. It has a very low number of votes, and as such, it has been downgraded to a "minor" problem. If it is not voted for, those with the ability to do so will not make a priority of fixing it.

Second: Although I still argue that this bug should be addressed immediately since this is the only bug almost any Firefox 3 user is likely to notice, there are two workarounds for it: to open a link in a new tab, either: 1) hold control while clicking on the desired link or 2) click on the desired link with your middle mouse button (click wheel) if you have one--although this second approach does not work with all mouses.
