It goes beyond merely annoying on Mac OS X. As I mentioned in comment 19 it can take a whole browser window out of commission for the session. The only way to get it back is to restart and pray that you can get rid of the password windows fast enough. I'll attach a screenshot of the symptom. Firefox 3.0rc1, by the way.
