So, after having performed my own tests (Firefox 3 RC), let me try to describe and summarize.

I've set Firefox up to use a master password, and instructed it to save passwords.

I've used 3 tabs.
2 tabs go to server A, 1 tab goes to server B.

Each tab requires http basic auth.
The 2 tabs for server A are in the same directory and work with the same user/pass.

Upon session restore, 3 master password (MP) prompts are opened.
As said before, it is sufficient to enter the password once.
In further MP prompts it's sufficient to click OK (without entering the password).

While Firefox does have the site passwords remembered, it brings up prompts for the site passwords, too. Yes, user/password fields are pre-filled, but you get a prompt, and you have to confirm (with OK).

Despite the fact that 2 tabs should obviously work with the same user/pass (same server same directory) I get 3 web site password prompts.

Then I removed the master password and restarted.
Upon next session restore, I no longer got a prompt for the MP, as expected.
However, I still got 3 independent prompts for the web passwords.
