Bug Description

When you open a file on a webpage with an unknown file type in firefox, and you select other, you get a very unhelpful file chooser dialog instead of the very helpful standard gnome open with... dialog. With the firefox dialog, it is almost impossible to find the right application for the job!

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/18995 is related to this but not exactly the same. I'm attaching screenshots showing the difference in Nautilus and Firefox.

An example of how it should look instead.

Note that there are enormous security implications to opening files from across the web. You are far more likely to encounter malicious files on the web than you are in your own file system or on custom-configured network shares. For an obvious example you don't want to execute code you find out on the web.

If this is implemented, please do so in a way that doesn't make browsing even more dangerous.

please lookup this bug in bugzilla.mozilla.org. Its most likely the bug about a better application selection dialog.

The code example from bugzilla.mozilla.org does it work ?
I myself have no idea how to compile it to firefox . It will be very nice if someone who knows would try.

Mike will release the patch to debian and we will most likely cherry pick the patch and apply it to a ubuntux release.
