Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

While attempting to watch the Laughing Baby Youtube clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HttF5HVYtlQ), I could see video but heard no audio. I check to see if I could play other audio (outside of Firefox) and I had no problems in those situations.

This report is similar in title to Bug 311914 and Bug 356687, but since I'm filing through apport, I didn't want to piggyback on them since I'll be attaching different information that may not be relevant to those reports.

I just completed an upgrade to Jaunty yesterday from an up-to-date Intrepid installation.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
Package: firefox-3.0 3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu3
ProcEnviron:
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: firefox-3.0
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686

My version of Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 2 has the following information from

uname -a

john@ubuntu:~$ uname -a
Linux ubuntu 2.6.31-1-generic #14-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jul 2 16:03:01 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

I think the flash program is the default video added when I accessed the first you tube video
after making my update:

sudo aptitude safe-upgrade

I think this is more likely pulse-audio vs firefox.

You can /probably/ go directly to step6. (mixer level is probably zero for PCM audio).

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I did manage to overcome this problem by using Firefox 3.5. So I guess it was a Firefox problem that will be resolved in Karmic (which will include Firefox 3.5).

That's odd since Firefox doesn't manage the sound. Maybe the flash plugin was broken? fyi - Current Karmic 9.10 alpha 3 + current patches is still on firefox 3.0.12, but I'm using Firefox 3.5 via PPA. :)

Karmic 9.10 latest version. Firefox/3.5.3. PCM is not muted. I'm pretty sure it worked until I updated from 9.04 to 9.10.

James,
Thanks for your message. I am using 9.04 now, and will upgrade, again, to
9.10 and hope to get Firefox 3.5.3
