There are reasons for and against this, but the current behavior is by design rather than by accident. Changing it depends on some architectural cleanup I'd like to make at some point, but I wasn't planning to change the behavior then, just make it _possible_.

I'm not WONTFIXing this because I'm not convinced it's a bad idea, but don't get your hopes up any time soon.
