Could you please update your Ubuntu Install with update manager?
there is much security and bugfix updates till 8.04 released.
Version of Ubuntu LTS now current in 8.04.1 with Linux 2.6.24-21-generic and Firefox 3.0.4 available.
After updating your installation, please report if the problem persist or not.
