I'm reassigning this to firefox for now. If you entire system would lock up I'd blame the kernel, but if it's just Firefox at the moment, I'm suspecting it's related directly to the app. Please take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs?action=show&redirect=DebuggingFirefox . Additionally, you might want to try the latest Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha5 release - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing to verify if this issue will exist in the upcoming release. Thanks.
