Except that no where in the civilized world is particularly worried about rapes in the street or is so dangerous that you need a gun to walk safely barring some very specific areas. If you want a gun in your home to protect your family, fine, but it serves absolutely no purpose when you bring it into public areas. Unless, like I mentioned, you're prepared to take the lives of everyone around you into your hands when you pull that weapon, because that is exactly what you are doing. It's vigilantism mixed with a dose of national pride and self confidence that you ought to be the one who decides whether someone lives or dies.

Edit: I trust the police more than I trust you, and I trust them very little. But atleast I know what I'm dealing with when the police are around.
