Could you try creating a new profile and seeing how many of these problems go away? That way, we can see if it's your Firefox install or your Firefox profile (or both) that have issues. :)

To create a new profile, make sure all of your Firefox windows are closed, then open a terminal (Accessories->Terminal, by default), or go to the Run Application dialog (Alt-F2, by default), and run "firefox -ProfileManager", without quotes. You should see the option to create a new profile, in addition to being able to choose a profile.

Then report back with how many of your problems remain, and how many were resolved.

(I'm guessing it's your Firefox installation, not just your profile, that's broken, but I'd like to confirm this. :))
