OK, I've just been looking through the old trunk nightly builds and I think I've found when the bug appeared. I found the bug wasn't present in the 2006-03-11-04-trunk nightly build, but was present in the 2006-03-12-05-trunk build.

I had a quick look at some of the checkins around that time and I think the checkins by darin<at>meer.net might have been touching the sort of code that could affect this bug:

I have no knowledge of the Firefox codebase or C++ though, so I could well be wrong. Hopefully this'll help a developer to figure out where the problem is and get this fixed.
