Thanks for all your work on this bug!

I've attempted to update the description from reviewing all the discussion so far. I'd appreciate it if you could review it and correct any mistakes I've added, and elaborate any relevant details.

Also, we've dropped the jaunty targets, but not because we don't want to see this in jaunty... just because there are a lot of package tasks for this bug and adding targeting on top of that generates a lot of clutter.
