I'm not suggesting the master password should be mandatory, just to solve a messy problem by making it a tad more encompassing for those who choose to use it. It seems a strange luxury to postpone the master password test until you run into the first protected site *and then remember it*. If you remember it, might as well ask for it at the start of the session.
