I believe I am running into this same problem. Sporadically the computer stops responding for around 2-3 seconds. I am running 10.04 amd64 on a Macbook 4,1.

Currently subscribing via Launchpad is broken, I get an error, so I cannot submit an apport report, but included are my Xorg and lspci logs.
