Another confirmation. I am using Edubuntu Feisty. This behaviour occurred _after_ updating the system after installation.

Disabling ESD sound mixing helps in my case.

This problem does not occur when logging out in terminal client, only when logging out from console. The problem is present for all users, not just main users.
