The above procedure written by Michael Mayer:

you've got to add the line
TerminateServer=true
in the [X-:*-Core] section of the kdmrc-File (/etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc)

works fine with feisty on my dell inspiron6400 with 945 Intel driver.
