For anyone who might be going back and forth between -ati and -fglrx, note that -fglrx doesn't uninstall very cleanly. In my testing I found after installing -fglrx that -ati would no longer work. I've documented the procedure for manually uninstalling it here:
I tested the procedure a few times with two ATI cards and found it worked okay. It'd be nice if fglrx's uninstaller worked more smoothly, but meanwhile if anyone runs into the problem, the above link will hopefully get you through the trouble.
