I have a radeon hd 2400 pro and have the same problems.
Jaunty can't run fglrx. If I do, it boots in a screen that is not readable, but the one thing I can make of it, is that it for some reason took a lower colour mode and a lower screen resolution.
From thereon I have to stop the computer because I can not read anything the screen displays.

To make my computer run again, I have to change the xorg.conf file and remove "Driver "fglrx"" in the section "Device". (Using another distro to get into the partition.)

Also when running openSUSE although the still run the 2.6.27 kernel. But there the screen colour varies from almost yellow to green and sometimes even purple. (without fglrx).
