Bug Description

affected version: Ubuntu 15.10 64bit
using the Ubuntu "Additional drivers" function it shows:
AMD/ ATI: Kaveri [Radeon R7 Graphics]

with options:
x.org. ...
fglrx-updates
fglrx

choosing fglrx or fglrx-updates initiates the install. No errors reported in this stage.

After a system REBOOT:

- boot-up process stops at splashscreen
- no access to terminal possible (CTRL+ALT+...) is not showing any results.
- display port is inactive (monitor is switching to standby)
- no LAN / WLAN access (SSH impossible)

Hardware shutdown:
- reboot is showing no effect
- reboot 4sec is exiting as expected

The fglrx install was repeated 3 times on this machine (followed by fresh install)
also showing same behavior on an AMD E-450

error was not present in 15.04 or 14.04LTS

I can shortly see a kernel panic before it jumps back to graphic mode and freezes permanently but I haven't been able to capture the text yet.

Thanx for investigating this bug :)

I did some searching and found this:
FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5 /// Bug #1493888 reported by Allen Webb on 2015-09-09
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1493888

Now I have some questions:
Is 1512307 an duplicate of 1493888 ?

and if yes, is this issue now solved with:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1493888/comments/215

and

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1493888/comments/217

???
Can I try and install fglrx-updates now?

Please:
1. Install Ubuntu into a separate partition. It can be an external drive.
2. Install fglrx-updates on it.

Then:

Thank you.
