This describes my problems as well. The problem occurs reliably every time I open two contacts, copy/paste an e-mail address from one to the other, then save the changed contact.

Here is some information that may be useful:

Ubuntu 12.10
evolution 3.6.0-0ubuntu3
3.5.0-19-generic kernel

Error messages from the crash are consistently:

(evolution:16430): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot register existing type `EABContactDisplay'

(evolution:16430): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_once_init_leave: assertion `result != 0' failed

** (evolution:16430): ERROR **: eab-contact-commit-duplicate-detected.ui: Invalid type function on line 61: 'eab_contact_display_get_type'
