I had the same problem because when cleaning, Evolution needs disc space.
The problem was Evolution index corrupted.
Solved when delete the following files and evolution create new ones. No lost data.

rm ~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox.ev-summary
rm ~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox.ev-summary-meta
