Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Sadly, there is no .crash file created. That's why I have provided you with as much information as I could gather.

After having crashed Evolution:
tim@desktop:/var/crash$ ls -la
totaal 0
drwxrwxrwt 2 root root 72 2008-04-17 17:38 .
drwxr-xr-x 15 root root 360 2008-03-05 22:18 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 2008-04-16 12:02 .lock

I hope the strace log provides you with enough information, if not please explain what information I could send more.

Hello. I just wanted to chime in that I am experiencing the same bug. I did not have this issue under Gutsy... only after I did the upgrade to Hardy.

I can also confirm that no crash report appears to be created in /var/crash. This bug is a real pain for me, so if I can be of help in gathering any other troubleshooting information to help resolve it, please email me.

Thanks.
Dave

you need to enable apport in /etc/defaults/apport, it's not running on stable to not get in the users way

No .crash file is generated, with apport enabled manually.

Proof, as people tend not to believe without evidence.
FYI, rebooting and completely reloading the kernel does give the same results.

Could you try to get a valgrind log for the crash (you can follow the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind)? You should also open an apport bug if it's not working

Here you are. Evolution continues to work under Valgrind when reproducing the crash.
