CORRECTION: I solved my problem by deleting the CONTENT of this file: ~/.local/share/evolution/calendar/system/calendar.ics

And also this file: ~/.evolution/calendar/local/system/calendar.ics

I left the (now empty) files there after deleting their contents, in case something was expecting them.
