@TraceyC - I had a clean install of Karmic on a new partition and then ported the data from the old installation of evolution. I have to say that so far so good... the problem seems to have disappeared for me (I upgraded last week-end, so I tested it only for the past 7 days, but before the problem was occurring several times per day).
