The bridge has never failed to come up on my setup.
Could you abstract the issue from eucalyptus Node install ? i.e. take the same CD on the same machine, perform a basic regular server install, push the bridge configuration in /etc/network/interfaces, reboot.
If it does come up in that case then it might be node-install related, but if it still doesn't we'll know this is external to Eucalyptus and a more generic bug.
