I've observed this on two different machines already. The main thing these had in common is that they were upgraded from Breezy to Dapper, i.e. none of them had a fresh Dapper install.
I'm using mozilla-acroread 7.0.1-0.0.ubuntu1 on both. For an example URL, just type in the following search string on google: 'test filetype:pdf'. None of the pdf file links returned from the search will load on Epiphany (you will get a blank page), whereas Firefox will open them correctly. Alternatively, use the following URL: www.ncrel.org/info/faq/pdftest.pdf
The only workaround I found for this was to uninstall mozilla-acroread afterwards and use mozplugger+Evince to load pdf's.
