I normaly us evince for pdf but i tried epdfview:

for this pdf (3.6 MB):
http://www.autobahnatlas-online.de/AutobahnkarteMitAS.pdf
epdfview needs about 13 seconds to load the file and needs 200% CPU power (in top)!

Also the colors are wrong but i will open up a extra bug report for this
