I have the same problem with TIF files, wich are converted from Canon 5D RAW files.

I can confirm, that the problem is somehow related to the EXIF, because only these files are mirrored, wich was taken as portrait. I also not sure, what Angel Abad said about the preview picture, because i don't know, has the TIF file the FULL resolution preview picture in it or not.

I can say that this issue is affecting at least eof and also the nautilus thumbnails too.

I made a test directory where i put 3 such an files, wich were mirrored. At first, nautilus was not able to generate the thumbnails for them, it just displaied the "TIF" icon. When i was opening these files, they all was still in landscape (90 degree) (as i told, these pictures were all takes as portrait) and all where mirrored over their real (in meaning of taking the picture) real vertical axis.

So the next step i did, was: holding the Ctrl key, dragged an copy of one file. At this moment, nautilus magically succeed to generating the thumbnails for all the 4 files. The thumbnails were there, but they all were in wrong orientation.

After that, i opened the copy file i made and i rotated it into correct orientation and saved it. It's thumbnail was updated into correct orientation (but still mirrored). But this is not all, things getting weird:

without editing the others files, nautilus thumbnails started behave different than eog. At the moment when i was opening the other file, it's thumbnail changed to correct one: correct orientation and no mirror. One by one, at the double click. But like i said, the eog behaved differently, and there were all files still in incorrect orientation and mirrored.

So, editing file x, made files y,z thumbnailing behave correct...
