Maybe useful to add: The problem exist only with Kubuntu 11.10 64bit, on my netbook with Ubuntu 11.10 32bit it works fine.

On both boxes:
thunderbird (7.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1)
enigmail (2:1.3.2-0ubuntu1)
