I lost several days of E-mail with this setting.
On
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailLocation/mbox
I finally found a better setting:

mail_location = mbox:/var/empty:INBOX=/var/mail/%u:INDEX=MEMORY
for
 /etc/dovecot/conf.d/01-dovecot-postfix.conf

This bug is getting painful !
