Comment 2 for bug 580998

So since empathy would only allow me to add jabber or import form pidgin I went into pidgin, added my accounts, and then imported them using empathy. They all did transfer over without issue and no problems as of yet. Obviously not a very good solution to the problem, more so additional info I suppose.
