Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

So this seems to be a general bug when adding a new account, which, of course I have to do because I put the release on to a USB stick (with persistent storage) with no existing accountss.

So it is a serious regression from the version in Alpha 2.

I believe that this issue is caused by the updates to gnome-keyring. I cannot reporoduce this at the moment but I am going to install today's build image and see if I can reproduce.

Just installed today's live cd and I am not able to create any account in empathy I get the same error message but empathy debug log does not show anything new when the message comes so this is turning out to be gnome-keyring issue as it appears every time when creating the same account after failing. And also its reproduceable in the live session.

The Live CD as downloaded has this problem as it installs 2.29.91-1ubuntu1. If you run Update manager you get 2.29.91-1ubuntu2, which fixes the bug.

The live cd 20100228 have empathy 2.29.91-1ubuntu2 and I can still reproduce this under the live session and after installation. Should I send this upstream if its an upstream issue?

I assume that the live CD has been updated somewhat since I wrote it to a USB key.

As the USB key has persistent storage, I can update it with update manager, so I suppose that some other update cured the fault because this problem has completely gone away for me.

I will boot into Lucid with the USB key and retest. I will then run update manager and report back if there is any regression.

Having had to redo my Live system on the USB key, this problem came back. It looks like empathy tries to create a 'default' keyring and sort of fails. Possibly because the 'default' keyring is already there and new one is created called 'default2'. Then another one called 'default3', and so on. I deleted all these extra keyrings and then empathy worked OK. Sorry to be a bit vague, but I didn't keep a detailed record of what happened. If you need that, please ask, but I don't want to go back and re-create the USB key unless I have to. It takes a long time as there are hundreds of updates to install.
