Screensaver uses only 1/4 of display size

Bug Description

When the electricsheep screensaver starts, it only uses about 1/4th of the total screen size. It doesn't matter if I set the zoom option in the screensaver options, then it is still the same size but then displayed in the upperleft corner instead of the center.

In the following electricsheep forum thread, the same problem is discussed: http://draves.org/HyperNews/get.cgi/flame/1254.html

I have problems with this too. I use Xinerama and both screens show only 1/2 of the sheep located on the right side of the screen.

Problem exits in Ubuntu Dapper. I can provide more information, if you ask...

Running $electricsheep --zoom 1 gives the output "warning: cannot zoom without mplayer or rootwin". If I add --root 1 as an argument, then electricsheep will expand to fill the entire screen. Could this be a possible problem if your screensaver daemon (probably gnome-screensaver or xscreensaver) doesn't add this flag?

Also, what version are you running? 2.6.8 is the latest, but I think Dapper only has 2.6.4 in the repos.

Could you please update the status of this bug? The electricsheep version in the repos now is now 2.6.8-2ubuntu1, which could have solved the problem. I am unable to reproduce it.

Thanks

Cannot tell right now, as currently electricsheep doesn't even turn up in the gnome-screensaver dialog (bug 56436).

After installing 2.6.8-2ubuntu1 I checked the .desktop file (which is in the wrong place due to bug #56436). The exec line equals electricsheep --root 1 when it should equal electricsheep --root 1 --zoom 1. I expect changing this to solve the zoom problem for the people who aren't stuck on bug #5823.

I'm confirming this then. The --zoom 1 option should be added to /usr/share/gnome-screensaver/themes/electricsheep.desktop The other locations of this file, for xscreensaver and kde users already has this option. Until it gets added, electricsheep will continue to not run fullscreen for gnome users.

Bug 56436 also needs to be fixed for electricsheep will appear in the gnome screensavers list. The electricsheep package should put the above file at /usr/share/applications/screensavers/electricsheep.desktop instead of its current location.

Both this bug and bug 56436 can be fixed with an edit of the .desktop files included in the electricsheep package. I'll see if I can get an MOTU to get on this.

This appears to be fixed in 2.6.8-5ubuntu1.

Thanks Kees. I guess the fix will be available in feisty when it comes out. Or you could download electricsheep from the feisty repository at http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty/x11/electricsheep

If it's still a problem for anybody, just reply back and we'll work to get it sorted out. Thanks for your contributions to Ubuntu.
