I have also read this thread. Changing the fstab did not work for me.
The other method of putting media in the dvd tray in suspend mode worked -
the media is then recognised and the drive is mounted. This allowed me to
play an audio cd, but when I tried to play a dvd I received the message that
the media is not recognised.
I've read a number of forums - including older forums and other linux
distros and no-one seems to have solved this problem.
I did have a problem of reading dvd's in Mandriva, but in the end it worked
with some configuration and settings.
