Even then DVD movies (purchased) are not recognised - error message that media is unknown. Audio cd's sometimes play. When trying to unmount, I am asked for my password - message given that another user mounted the media.

So is there no forthcoming fix for this? does anyone want to tutor me on how to fix bugs like this as I have no problems spending some time on this but getting to the route of the problem is quite daunting if it's going to require some fairly esoteric kernel knowledge.
