I filed, perhaps incorrectly, a variation of this problem in bug 5465.

There is problem with interoperability of Rhythmbox and SanDIsk Sansa player. The player *seems* (not 100% sure) to have problems with v2.x tags. There is no way (that I know) to force Rhythmbox to use v1.x tags.
