Binary package hint: e2fsprogs
The man page for mke2fs states that the extended option lazy_itable_init is on by default unless you specify it with =0. This does not appear to be the case. Adding -E lazy_itable_init=1 greatly speeds up mkfs and future fscks especially on large disks.
