Sorry about the long time without any response. I would like to get a picture about how this issue stand in
a) Hardy and
b) Jaunty
Is this still an issue with the latest kernels of both series (please consider to test Hardy-proposed as well if the current Hardy kernel in updates shows problems)?

Unfortunately there also seem to be several issues mixed into this. From possible application issues to kernel problems. Most of them sound as being problems with libata. So as stated by some reporters for Hardy "all_generic_ide" might be a solution. Since Intrepid there is a little more control over libata through libata.force, eg. to force 40cable conntections for decive ata1 one would specify "libata.force=1:40c".
