The package dracut cannot be installed on Ubuntu 12.10 as it conflicts with the initramfs-tools package. Due to the conflict, the package dracut can never be installed as initramfs-tools cannot be removed.

In an answer to my question regarding this problem on askUbuntu [1] the answer was, that dracut and initramfs-tools should both depend on linux-initramfs-tools (which is a virtual package provided by both initramfs-tools and dracut).

I just checked on another installation and dracut is installing fine on Ubuntu 12.04.1.
