I also have experienced exactly the same issue. The message 'Gave up waiting for root device, no block devices found (x4)' is displayed and I am them dropped to a Busybox prompt.

Typing:

dmraid -ay
exit

Then allows the system to boot correctly.

I am running 2.6.28-11-server kernel
