I never did, as I didn't have the time to look into the implications.
However, the package has been removed, see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=279824.

As to defoma's future, who knows, but I suppose it's best to keep this
bug open for now, as the title is still relevant.
