Bug Description

TEST CASE:
0) Boot alternate installer
1) Choose English for Language
2) Choose Finland for Location (found in other)
3) Default Locate choose United States

You can try to have your keyboard layout detected by pressing a series of keys. If you do
not want to do this, you will be able to select your keyboard layout from a list.

Detect keyboard layout?

<Go Back> <Yes> <No>

4) If no is chosen, then no list is presented, the installer skips to the next step and does not offer a list of possible keyboard layouts.

Just to be clear, this is from the installation CD xubuntu-11.10-beta1-alternate-i386.iso
It skips the keyboard step

This is still present in beta2: if the "detect keyboard layour" step is skipped, then there is no menu to select the keyboard layout from.

If the "detect keyboard layout" step is skipped it appears to pull the choice from the geographic location.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug report has not been filed about a specific package rather just about Ubuntu in general. Examining the contents of this report it seems that this bug is probably about ubiquity. If this seems correct to you (you can get the package description by using the command 'apt-cache show ubiquity') please change the affected package to that one by clicking the expander next to Ubuntu and filing in the Package text box. Additionally, if there are no log files included in this report it'd be helpful if you were to gather them using the command 'apport-collect 855268' in a terminal after you've assigned the bug to a package.

For future reference there are bug reporting tools built in to Ubuntu that can be accessed by going to Help -> Report a Problem in the application's menu or by using the command 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package with which you are having a problem.

This is not ubiquity, but during the installation process itself and thus no particular package.

The software the provides the installation process is in fact part of a particular package and for GUI installs that is called ubiquity. For text installs, as on the alternate CD, is called debian-installer.

IIRC, keyboard language is not asked, that is the bug. You can go through the steps to identify the keyboard by answering questions. That works. But if the questions are not answered, then there is no fallback to a menu with a list of keyboard layouts.

Before the keyboard layout question there are two questions - one regarding the language and one regarding the country you are in. Do you recall what you choose for those?

On both systems I answered US English and the location of Finland.
